Quenching time-scales in the IllustrisTNG simulation

چکیده
ABSTRACT The time-scales for galaxy quenching offer clues to its underlying physical drivers. We investigate central in the IllustrisTNG 100-1 simulation, their evolution over time, and pre-quenching properties of galaxies that predict time-scales. Defining duration ?q as time between crossing specific star formation rate (sSFR) thresholds, we find ${\sim} 40{{\ \rm per\ cent}}$ quench rapidly with < 1 Gyr, but a substantial tail can take up 10 Gyr quench. Furthermore, 29 per cent left star-forming main sequence (SFMS) more than 2 ago never fully by z = 0. While median is fairly constant epoch, leaving SFMS increases steadily cosmic slow quenchers being dominant around ? 2–0.7. Compared fast (?q Gyr), slow-quenching > Gyr) were massive, had massive black holes, larger stellar radii, accreted gas higher angular momentum (AM) prior quenching. These evolve little 0, except accreting AM quenchers, which reaches same high quenchers. By also have residual extended rings. Time domain simulation of power systems with different time scales
The time evolution of power systems is modeled by a system of differential and algebraic equations. The variables involved in the system may exhibit different time scales. In standard numerical time integration methods the most active variables impose the time step for the whole system. We present a strategy, which allows the use of different, local time steps over the variables. The partitioni...

couple different length and time scales in serial fashion. By this we mean that one set of calculations at a fundamental level, and of high computational complexity, is used to evaluate constants for use in a more approximate or phenomenological computational methodology at longer length or time scales. In pioneering work of this sort in the 1980s, Clementi and coworkers1 used high-quality quan...
متن کاملTime Scales in Starbursts
Starbursts are associated with distinct time scales spanning at least three orders of magnitude from 10 to 10 yr. The triggering of nuclear starbursts occurs over 10 to 10 yr, when gas is flowing to the galaxy center due to angular momentum loss, thereby raising the nuclear gas density. Star formation then increases as a result of the increased gas pressure. In addition, spontaneous star format...
